Penang and Langkawi are two individual island cities in Malaysia which has been cut off from the mainland by the Straits of Malacca. Both cities are known for its attractive sightseeing and tourist activities. The beach cities are a real feast for the traveler's eyes as the islands are loaded with dozens of fun activities and prehistoric buildings.
Travel to Langkawi from Penang without vacating your hotels in Penang as the distance between the two is considerably very less. You can choose any mode of transportation according to the convenience and cost.
Traveling in a ferry-boat across the ocean is an adventurous trip mixed with fun and thrill. The boat floats according to the rise and fall of tides. The voyage can bring a lot of new experiences to the traveler as the travel takes place on the wavy floors of the ocean.
Duration - the travel takes not more than 2 hours 45 minutes, approximately.
Ferry Timings - the first trip from Penang starts around 8.15 am and the last trip from Langkawi at 5.15 pm (local timings). However, there are frequent trips between the two major island ports at the mid hours of the day. The ferries sail almost every day of the year.
Fare - for an adult they charge around RM 60.00 and for children from RM 25.00 to RM 45.00 (approximately). Online bookings are also available.
This is the easiest, cheapest and fastest mode of transportation to travel across the cities, but there is a very less percentage of threat left on flight delays. If you want to travel by air then book your tickets well in advance and keep a track on the flight status by ringing the airport or airline.
Duration - the journey takes less than 40 minutes. There are also some direct flights flying between the cities.
Airlines - Malaysia Airlines, Airasia and Firefly are the three airlines that provide direct flights.
Airfare - the flight ticket rate changes depending on various factors like airlines, dates and seasons (on/off seasons).
After landing up in Langkawi visit all the major tourist locations like Elephant Adventure to ride on elephants, Tiger! Tiger! Gallery & Exhibit, Cable car, Buffalo Park, Crocodile Farm, etc. Get wet in the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls and Durian Perangin Falls. Go and see the old heritage of the city by visiting the ancient buildings such as Al-Hana Mosque, Eagle Square, etc. If you are unable to visit all the tourist attractions in a single day better accommodate in one of the cheap hotels in Langkawi and go visit other vacation spots the next day.
